Case Study: Marian Singleton

Marian wanted an outfit created to wear to her daughter’s wedding. Having always had trouble getting jackets that fit and were flattering she decided that having something made for her would be the best option and help her to look and feel her best on this special day.

After trying on various pieces that she already owned and discussing what she liked and didn’t like about items in her wardrobe, we decided that creating a simple, yet elegant shift dress, with a coordinating tailored jacket with a structured lapel, was the best option.

Fabric choice was very important for Marian. Having spent time looking at lots of “Mother of the Bride” options in well-known retailers, she found most of the options were in pastel shades. These shades didn’t work well with her colouring so we looked for strong colours that made a statement but weren’t too overpowering. The rest of the bridal party were wearing matt fabrics so we decided on burnt orange and French navy wool crepe which has a beautiful feel is lightweight and has a matt finish.

The burnt orange shift dress can be worn as a stand-alone piece. The navy trim gives it an elegant finish and ties the dress in with the jacket that was made to coordinate.

Both the jacket and dress were lined in high-quality silk which made the outfit feel luxurious, wonderfully commutable to wear and both cool in the day, and warm in the evening.
